Commissioned by Rosendale Design, the visualisation series for Norma was developed around the changing character of the restaurant across its Charlotte Street townhouse.
Rather than relying on wide views, we worked with tighter compositions, looking past tables, through the bar, along the staircase and across the fish counter. Marble, patterned tiles, walnut, brass and leather were allowed to come close to the camera, while shallow focus and foreground objects give several of the images the feeling of photographs taken from within an occupied restaurant.
Daylight was used selectively, cutting sharply across walls and floors, while the evening images depend almost entirely on the restaurant’s own pools of warm light. The intention was to make the series feel less like a record of the interior and more like fragments of an evening on Charlotte Street.
